A Statement On This Week’s Violence From Our Women’s Group

Addictions North East women’s workers agree with and endorse this collective statement:

As part of a collective of agencies that work with women recovering from violence against women and girls, trauma, and addiction; we are deeply concerned about violence and unrest spreading across the Northeast of England and the rest of the nation. We believe that this terrifying situation is rooted in a rise of extremist ideology based on hatred and intolerance, which aims to destroy the fundamental rights and freedoms of certain groups in our communities. As such, we stand in unity with Black and minoritised individuals, communities, and families; including asylum seekers, refugees, and those of Muslim and other faiths that we consider the recent attacks to be targeting. We stand in solidarity with women and girls in these communities and intend to seek out and embrace opportunities to work collaboratively and creatively with our sisters towards restoring peace and unity.
